SEATTLE – A tragic incident unfolded at the Bite of Seattle food festival, a popular event that attracts thousands of visitors each year. On Sunday evening, gunfire broke out, resulting in three fatalities and four injuries, including a young child. This shocking event has left the community in disbelief and mourning.

Police believe that the shooting involved two suspects who were firing at each other during the festival. One suspect was arrested shortly after the incident, while the second remains at large. Assistant Seattle Police Chief Tyrone Davis stated that there is no ongoing threat to the public, although details about the outstanding suspect are still unclear.

The victims included two men aged 19 and 44, as well as a 56-year-old woman. The four individuals who were injured, including a 2-year-old boy, are reported to be in stable condition. It remains uncertain if any of the victims were involved in the conflict.

The chaos erupted around 6 p.m., just as the festival was winding down. Attendees were enjoying the sights and sounds of the event, which features hundreds of food vendors and performers, when gunfire shattered the festive atmosphere. Officers stationed at the festival quickly responded, and some even witnessed the shooting.

Eyewitnesses recounted their shock and fear. Faith Adia Hunter, who was near the scene, described how she and her friends fled toward a nearby children’s museum for safety. “We were right next to him when it started so we took off running,” she said. Many vendors also abandoned their stalls, leaving food and equipment behind as they rushed to safety.

Roberto Ramirez, a vendor at the festival, recalled hearing what he thought were firecrackers before realizing the situation was far more serious. “Suddenly everything was empty,” he said, describing the panic that ensued as people fled.

Estan Wakonabo, who was waiting in line for a photo booth, described how he saw people rushing past him, panicked and frightened. “Once I heard a ‘pop, pop, pop,’ that’s when I knew it was a shooter,” he remarked. After ensuring his girlfriend was safe, he returned to the scene and saw multiple victims on the ground.

The Bite of Seattle started back in 1982 and has grown to attract around 350,000 attendees over its three-day run. This year’s festival was meant to be a celebration of food and community, but it ended in tragedy.

As the investigation continues, the community is left to grapple with the aftermath of this senseless violence. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families during this difficult time.
