BOSTON – In a thrilling showdown at Fenway Park, the Boston Red Sox completed a four-game sweep of their historic rivals, the New York Yankees, securing a 5-4 victory in a dramatic 10-inning affair on Sunday night. The win marked Boston’s first four-game sweep over the Yankees since 2018 and represented the Red Sox’s first four-game winning streak of the season, a significant boost for a team currently positioned at the bottom of the AL East.

Boston’s Sonny Gray showcased an impressive performance, taking a no-hitter into the eighth inning before Amed Rosario’s single broke the streak. Gray, a former Yankee, struck out nine batters, reaching a career milestone of 2,000 strikeouts during the game. His dominance on the mound was a testament to his skill and experience, drawing admiration from fans and analysts alike.

However, the game took a dramatic turn in the ninth inning when the Yankees, trailing by two runs, capitalized on a crucial throwing error by Wilyer Abreu, a two-time Gold Glove right fielder. Aroldis Chapman, the All-Star closer for Boston, surrendered two runs, allowing the Yankees to tie the game at 2-all, which set the stage for an intense extra inning.

In the 10th inning, the Yankees initially took a lead with two runs, but Fernando Cruz struggled to maintain that advantage. Boston’s resilience shone through as they rallied in the bottom half of the inning. Anthony Seigler led off with an RBI single, and Masataka Yoshida followed up with a double. Tsung-Che Cheng’s sacrifice fly tied the game at 4, setting the stage for a thrilling finish.

In a strategic move, the Yankees shifted Rosario from left field to bolster their infield, but Jarren Duran seized the opportunity, hitting a decisive line drive to right field, where no defenders were positioned. This clutch hit not only secured the victory for the Red Sox but also highlighted Duran’s growing prominence in critical moments.

The Yankees, who arrived at Fenway with the best record in the American League, left a game behind the Tampa Bay Rays, reflecting the shifting dynamics of the AL East. As the season progresses, both teams will look to build on their recent performances, with the Yankees set to face the Detroit Tigers in a three-game series starting Monday.

As for the Red Sox, they will be looking to maintain their momentum against the Washington Nationals at Fenway Park, with left-hander Ranger Suarez on the mound. With Boston’s recent resurgence, fans are hopeful for a turnaround in their season.
