SAN ANTONIO – A man named Paul Flores is no longer in custody after being accused of shooting and killing Edward Trejo during a Christmas party. The Bexar County prosecutors announced they didn’t have enough evidence to charge him with a crime.

The tragic incident took place in the early hours of December 21 when Trejo was at his friend David Alfaro’s house celebrating the holiday. Alfaro recounted that Flores came to his door, upset about the loud music. “We were just in my house, we were having a Christmas party,” he said, recalling the tense moment.

According to Alfaro, Flores was very confrontational, expressing his anger in a loud and aggressive manner. “When I answered the door, I was met with yelling, cussing,” he said. Despite repeated requests for Flores to leave, the situation escalated into a physical altercation.

Alfaro described how the confrontation turned violent, stating, “Paul Flores put his arm up and started shoving.” Moments later, two gunshots rang out. One bullet grazed Alfaro’s leg, while the other tragically struck Trejo, resulting in his death.

As of now, Flores is no longer in Bexar County Adult Detention Center, as the District Attorney’s Office decided not to pursue the case, stating it was no-billed. This decision has left many, including Trejo’s family and friends, feeling unsafe and frustrated.

Alfaro expressed concern about his safety and that of his friends, saying, “I grew up at that house, and now I don’t even feel safe anymore because this guy’s residence is our backyards.” Meanwhile, Andrea Trejo, Edward’s mother, voiced her feelings of injustice and her desire for accountability. “I dropped to my knees. I felt like I lost him all over again,” she said, articulating her deep sorrow and anger with the judicial system.

The District Attorney’s Office has indicated that the case could potentially be reopened. Andrea Trejo plans to hire an attorney to continue advocating for her son’s justice.
