SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Zoo has recently gained international recognition, as it has been named one of the best zoos in the world by Condé Nast Traveler. This acknowledgment is not just about the zoo’s attractions; it highlights the significant impact the zoo has on conservation efforts both locally and globally.
Condé Nast Traveler’s updated list showcases zoos that make a real difference beyond their gates through various conservation and restoration initiatives. The San Antonio Zoo stands out for its dedication to these causes, which include notable projects like the Texas Horned Lizard Reintroduction Project and Project Selva. The latter is a collaborative effort that works with Indigenous communities in the Amazon River basin to protect wildlife and their habitats.
Tim Morrow, the president and CEO of San Antonio Zoo, expressed pride in this recognition. “To be recognized as one of the best zoos in the world is an incredible honor, but what makes this recognition especially meaningful is the focus on conservation,” he stated. His comments reflect the zoo’s vision to secure a future for wildlife, whether that work is happening locally in Texas or with communities halfway around the globe.
This recognition comes at an exciting time for the San Antonio Zoo, which has been undergoing major transformations. Recent expansions include the Naylor Savanna, an immersive habitat designed to mimic the African savanna, and Congo Falls, a state-of-the-art gorilla habitat that enhances the animals’ living conditions and visitor experience.
This past summer, the zoo was honored as the Best Family Attraction and Best Tourist Attraction in San Antonio. Earlier in the year, it also received recognition as the No. 7 best zoo in America in the USA Today 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards. Additionally, in 2025, it was named one of the top 10 zoos in the country by Condé Nast Traveler and ranked No. 2 in the U.S. by Newsweek.
