COMAL COUNTY, Texas – A tragic incident unfolded on Monday at Hill Country College Preparatory High School when a 15-year-old student allegedly used a .357 revolver to shoot a teacher. The Comal County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) reported that the student, who has not been publicly identified, brought the firearm from home.
In a statement released on Tuesday morning, CCSO confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, with detectives examining the motive behind the shooting. Officials have indicated that the student may have been struggling with “academic challenges,” but further details have yet to emerge.
“Authorities are continuing to gather information to better understand the circumstances leading up to the incident,” CCSO noted. A search warrant was executed at the student’s home, leading to the seizure of several electronic devices. These items are currently undergoing forensic examination to uncover more about the student’s actions and potential motivations.
The teacher who was shot remains hospitalized. Out of respect for her privacy and that of her family, the CCSO has chosen not to disclose her identity at this time, stating that the school district will provide that information when appropriate.
The shooting incident prompted a swift response from multiple law enforcement agencies, with the school placed on lockdown at 8:34 a.m. The sheriff’s office had been notified of the situation shortly after the shooting occurred. Sheriff Mark Reynolds confirmed that the student had reportedly shot himself after the incident with the teacher and was pronounced dead at the scene.
CCSO is closely collaborating with the school and other law enforcement agencies as it continues its investigation. Sheriff Reynolds has emphasized the importance of understanding the connection between the student and the teacher, although specifics about the relationship have not been revealed.
