EDWARDS COUNTY, Texas – In an exciting development for outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers, the Devil’s Sinkhole State Natural Area is set to expand by an impressive 1,200 acres. This expansion will grow the site to encompass more than 3,000 acres, enhancing opportunities for recreation in the picturesque Hill Country.

The newly acquired land is significant not only for its natural beauty but also for its historical value, as it will help reunite part of the historic Whitworth Ranch. This move will not only preserve the area’s landscape but also its rich history tied to Edwards County.

With the expansion, visitors can look forward to approximately 10 miles of new trails designed for hikers, bird watchers, and stargazers. This enhancement aligns with the increasing demand for accessible outdoor spaces that promote physical activity and connection with nature.

In addition to new trails, there is potential for the park to offer overnight accommodations in the future, which could further enrich the visitor experience and attract tourists seeking a deeper connection with Texas’s natural landscapes.

Once the expansion is complete, the Devil’s Sinkhole State Natural Area will provide an even larger space for exploration, while also serving as a protector of land that embodies Edwards County’s ranching heritage.

Officials have indicated that more details regarding the timeline for the new trails and potential overnight stays will be announced in due course, keeping the community and visitors informed about upcoming developments.
