The agreement was finalized with agent Jeff Schwartz of Excel Sports Management on Monday night, a testament to Barnes’ ongoing presence in the team’s strategy.
Since joining the Spurs in the 2024-25 season, Barnes has played a crucial role in providing valuable leadership to a young roster. His experience, having won an NBA championship with the Golden State Warriors in 2015, has been instrumental for the team’s development.
During the past season with the Spurs, Barnes averaged 9.9 points, 2.8 rebounds, and nearly two assists per game. These statistics, while modest, reflect his contributions beyond just scoring—emphasizing his ability to mentor younger players and help them grow on and off the court.
Alongside other key role players like Bismack Biyombo and Kelly Olynyk, Barnes has been a consistent voice for San Antonio’s young foundation. His leadership and experience are expected to continue to guide the team as they aim for success in the upcoming season.
