SAN ANTONIO – It’s official: The NBA Finals logos are back at the NBA Finals.

On Sunday, the NBA made a quiet yet significant announcement via social media, confirming that the iconic Larry O’Brien Trophy logo will return to midcourt for this season’s NBA Finals. This change will be visible during games held at both the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio and Madison Square Garden in New York.

The Finals script logo will also make a comeback, prominently displayed on either side of the court. The series, featuring the San Antonio Spurs and the New York Knicks, is set to kick off on Wednesday in San Antonio.

This marks the first time since the 2009 Finals, which pitted the Los Angeles Lakers against the Orlando Magic, that the trophy logo will grace the center court. The last appearance of the Finals wordmark and logo was during the 2014 showdown between the Spurs and the Miami Heat.

Historically, the NBA has integrated the finals wordmark into the court since 1989. The league evolved its design, introducing a combined trophy and wordmark in 2004 and prominently featuring the trophy logo from 2005 until 2009.

In recent years, fans have expressed their dissatisfaction on social media regarding the absence of distinctive markings on the Finals court. While the league commissions special courts for events such as the NBA Cup games, many wondered why the finals had been left without similar embellishments.

This year’s design introduces an exciting twist: the center court trophy logo will be integrated with the branding of the participating teams, adding a unique touch to the traditional Finals court setup.
