DETROIT – In an electrifying playoff matchup on Wednesday night, the Cleveland Cavaliers emerged victorious against the Detroit Pistons, clinching a 117-113 win in overtime. This triumph marks a pivotal moment in the Eastern Conference semifinal series, giving the Cavs a 3-2 lead.

The game showcased a gripping back-and-forth battle, with the Pistons initially leading by 15 points in the first half and holding a 103-94 advantage with just over two minutes left in regulation. However, the Cavaliers staged a remarkable comeback, tying the game at 103-all thanks to Evan Mobley’s clutch free throws with only 45.2 seconds remaining.

Cleveland’s defense came alive, executing a 13-0 run while keeping the Pistons scoreless for five crucial minutes, stretching from the end of the fourth quarter into overtime. Donovan Mitchell’s timely three-pointer gave the Cavaliers a seven-point lead with 2:39 left in the extra period, showcasing his pivotal role in the game.

Despite the impressive performance from Cade Cunningham, who scored 39 points and dished out nine assists for the Pistons, Detroit struggled to regain control. Cunningham’s jumper late in the game narrowed the gap to just two points, but Harden’s resilience at the free-throw line ultimately secured the Cavs’ victory.

As the series heads into Game 6 on Friday night in Cleveland, the Cavaliers find themselves one win away from advancing to the Eastern Conference Finals, where they would face the New York Knicks. Should the Pistons manage to win, a decisive Game 7 would be hosted on Sunday.

Cleveland’s victory marks their first road win of the series, a significant achievement given that the Pistons had previously won four consecutive home games. James Harden contributed significantly to the win, not only scoring 30 points but also grabbing eight rebounds and providing six assists. Max Strus added 20 points, including six three-pointers, while Mobley and Jarrett Allen contributed with 19 and 16 points, respectively.

On the other side, the Pistons faced challenges with their shooting, as Tobias Harris struggled, missing 13 of 19 shots, and Daniss Jenkins, starting in place of the injured Duncan Robinson, managed 19 points but was unable to secure the win.

Mitchell, who had been limited to single digits in the first half, showcased his scoring prowess in previous games, including tying an NBA playoff record with 39 points in the second half of Game 4. His performance will be crucial as the Cavs aim to close out the series in the upcoming games.

The Pistons, having previously dominated at home, will need to regroup and come back strong to keep their postseason hopes alive. With the stakes high, both teams are gearing up for a thrilling continuation of this competitive playoff series.
