The Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce highlights that more playoff games can lead to more revenue flowing into local businesses, particularly bars and restaurants that are hosting watch parties. The added excitement around the games has translated into a tangible economic boost for many, enhancing the vibrancy of the community amid challenging economic times.
“I just love seeing the enthusiasm in our business owners who are like, ‘This is a breath of fresh air,’” said Jeff Webster, president and CEO of the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce. “It’s been some tough times. This brings a whole level of energy and, more importantly, some revenue to help them survive right now in some tough economic times.”
Economic partnership organization Greater:SATX has also noted the positive impacts of the Spurs’ playoff success, referring to it as the “Spurs effect.” This phenomenon not only aids local businesses but also serves as a conversation starter with potential international companies regarding San Antonio as a viable location for business investment.
“Our team travels the globe building relationships with businesses to ultimately bring them here to grow jobs in our San Antonio community,” explained Jamie Bloodsworth Lutrell, a spokesperson for Greater:SATX. “The topic of the Spurs frequently helps to open the door with international companies to start conversations about San Antonio as a destination for business investment.”
