PHOENIX – Recently, a shocking incident at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas caught the attention of many. Video footage showed two agents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) tackling a man, which sparked outrage among the public and criticism from local officials.

In the video, a visibly distressed man can be seen on the ground in Terminal 3, yelling and crying as a man and a woman, both dressed in plain clothes and wearing masks, attempted to detain him. When they noticed they were being filmed, they abruptly walked away, leaving one of the man’s hands cuffed.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department investigated the situation and found that the man had no outstanding warrants. They removed his handcuffs and informed ICE of the incident.

The man involved was identified as Phu Nguyen, a 57-year-old Australian citizen who had overstayed his visa. Although ICE initially did not proceed with an arrest at the airport, they later apprehended him when he was boarding a flight at Los Angeles International Airport.

Senator Jacky Rosen, a Democrat from Nevada, expressed her concerns, stating, “ICE is continuing to act with impunity — instilling fear in our communities and scaring tourists, which hurts our tourism economy. Enough is enough. ICE must follow the same commonsense guardrails as other law enforcement agencies.”

In response to the incident, both the Nevada Latino Legislative Caucus and the Asian American Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander Caucus have called for a thorough investigation into ICE’s actions at the airport. They are urging Governor Joe Lombardo to provide clarity on the oversight and accountability of federal law enforcement agencies operating within Nevada.
