In a shocking incident last week, popular rapper Offset was attacked by a large group of individuals outside a casino in Florida. According to the FBI, the ambush occurred at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, which is just north of Miami. During the chaos, Offset was shot in the leg, marking a serious moment in what has already been a tumultuous period for the artist.
The FBI reported that the attackers attempted to rob Offset, but their efforts were thwarted. A single gunshot struck him in the leg, and the assailants tried to steal his watch but failed to do so. Offset, who is known for his role in the influential hip-hop group Migos, was hospitalized for a couple of days but made a swift recovery, returning to the stage at a music festival at the University of Arkansas just days later.
After the incident, witnesses reported seeing the suspects flee the scene in two Chevrolet SUVs: a black Suburban heading toward Hollywood, Florida, and a Tahoe going south toward Miami. Law enforcement quickly acted and detained two individuals, but so far, there has been no substantial evidence linking them directly to the shooting.
One of those detained was rapper Lil Tjay, whose real name is Tione Jayden Merritt. He was arrested for a separate altercation that took place before the shooting. Lil Tjay faced charges of disorderly conduct and driving without a valid license, but his attorney clarified that he did not have a firearm and was not charged with any gun-related offenses. He was quickly released after posting bond.
Offset, whose real name is Kiari Kendrell Cephus, gained fame as part of Migos, a groundbreaking hip-hop trio known for their rapid-fire delivery and catchy hooks. Migos has produced several multi-platinum singles, including the smash hit “Bad and Boujee,” which topped the Billboard Hot 100, along with other hits like “Stir Fry” and “Narcos.” Throughout their career, the group released four full-length albums and became a defining force in the trap music genre.
This isn’t the first time tragedy has struck the Migos family; Offset’s cousin, Takeoff, another member of the group, was shot and killed in Houston over three years ago, a loss that still resonates within the hip-hop community.
