BEXAR COUNTY, Texas – A dramatic incident unfolded on Sunday evening when Bexar County deputies responded to a domestic violence call involving a 56-year-old man who allegedly assaulted his 30-year-old son. Sheriff Javier Salazar reported that the altercation took place in the 26900 block of Rustic Brook.

Upon arrival, deputies initially encountered the suspect inside the residence. According to Sheriff Salazar, the man initially complied with law enforcement but soon escalated the situation when he attempted to resist arrest.

As deputies were in the process of handcuffing him, the suspect produced a firearm from his waistband. In a tense moment, he fired a shot, which fortunately did not strike anyone. The bullet reportedly jammed in the weapon, allowing deputies to gain control and secure the firearm without any injuries to bystanders or law enforcement personnel.

Sheriff Salazar confirmed that the suspect is expected to face serious charges, including at least one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, alongside a charge related to domestic violence. The suspect’s identity has not yet been released to the public.

This incident is not the first involving the suspect; records indicate that deputies have responded to the same residence approximately 14 times over the past 18 to 24 months. Salazar also noted that the suspect has a documented history of violent crimes, primarily involving assault.

In reflecting on the incident, Sheriff Salazar expressed gratitude towards the deputies, stating, “There is no doubt in my mind that the actions of these deputies tonight saved the life of that suspect.” This comment underscores the often perilous nature of law enforcement work, particularly in domestic violence situations.

As of the latest updates, no formal charges had been filed, and the investigation into the incident remains ongoing. The community continues to seek clarity and resolution in the wake of this unsettling occurrence.
