FLORESVILLE, Texas – In a surprising turn of events, the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) discovered an extensive cockfighting ring during an investigation into stolen firearms. This bust occurred on April 28 when authorities received a report regarding more than 100 firearms valued at over $200,000 that had been reported stolen.

The initial report pointed BCSO to the 1100 block of County Road 108, leading to the issuance of a search warrant. During the search, deputies not only recovered several stolen firearms but also uncovered what was described by BCSO spokesperson Joshua Hamby as “a huge cockfighting ring.”

The scene revealed 54 roosters, of which 42 were still alive, while 12 were found deceased. The discovery of these birds raised significant concerns regarding animal cruelty and illegal gambling activities associated with cockfighting, which is a criminal offense in many jurisdictions, including Texas.

Multiple arrests were made at the scene, with individuals facing various charges, including animal cruelty, evading arrest, and gambling-related offenses. Additionally, there may be charges concerning the stolen firearms discovered on the property. However, BCSO has yet to release the names of those arrested as the investigation continues.

This incident highlights the ongoing issues surrounding illegal animal fighting and theft in the region. The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office is committed to addressing such criminal activities, prioritizing public safety and animal welfare. As the investigation unfolds, further details may emerge that shed light on the extent of these operations and the individuals involved.
