SAN ANTONIO – A mother is mourning her son, who died after a fight at a North Side apartment complex, and police are still looking for the shooter.

Alando Marston, 25, known to his family as AJ, was involved in a fight with multiple people at the Loma Vista Apartments off Marbach Road on October 4, according to the San Antonio Police Department. During the altercation, one of the suspects pulled out a gun, leading to a tragic outcome.

The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that Marston died from gunshot wounds. As of more than a week after the incident, police have not made any arrests in connection with the shooting.

Marston’s mother, Laura White, shared her heart-wrenching experience of losing her son. She vividly recalled the silence in his hospital room as she prepared to take him off life support. “I never knew how loud silence is,” White said, reflecting on the emotional moment she kissed him goodbye.

Doctors had informed White that her son was unlikely to survive his injuries, and even if he did, he would remain in a vegetative state. This devastating news has left her grappling with the enormity of her loss.

White believes that the shooter may have been someone familiar to her son. When asked about a woman who was present with her son during the incident, she indicated that the suspect might have known her. “To me, I believe it was someone close to him from certain things I’ve heard,” she stated.

In her grief, White is calling for anyone involved in the shooting to come forward. “Just turn yourself in,” she urged. “If you feel like you weren’t involved, then clear your name. It’s as simple as that.”

Marston leaves behind several siblings, including three younger brothers, and a 2-year-old daughter. White expressed her deep sorrow over the fact that her granddaughter will grow up without her father. “I’ll definitely make sure his daughter knows him,” she vowed, emphasizing her commitment to preserving her son’s memory.

Describing her son as loving, outgoing, and free-spirited, White noted that he had a profound love for his daughter. This tragic incident underscores the urgent need for community awareness and action regarding gun violence, as families like the Marstons face unimaginable loss.
