SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio community is mourning the loss of 64-year-old Juan Rolando Chavez, whose body was discovered in Woodlawn Lake following severe storms that struck the area on August 28, according to the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s office.
Chavez’s body was recovered on August 30 by a park patron after heavy rains led to significant flooding in the region. The San Antonio police have confirmed that the cause of death was asphyxia due to drowning, and the incident has been classified as an accident.
This tragic event marks Chavez as the second victim of the flooding caused by the storms. Earlier, investigators reported that 46-year-old Jenifer Leigh Hillard was also swept away by floodwaters during the same weather event and did not survive.
Authorities have stated that there is no suspicion of foul play in either case, and the investigation is ongoing as they work to finalize their findings. The community is urged to stay aware of weather conditions and to take precautions during severe storms to ensure safety.
As the San Antonio area continues to recover from the aftermath of these storms, local officials and emergency services are reminding residents to remain vigilant, especially in areas prone to flooding.
