ALAMO HEIGHTS, Texas – A heartbreaking loss has transformed into a lasting tribute as a local playground was dedicated in memory of 8-year-old Kellyanne Lytal, who tragically lost her life in the July 4 Hill Country floods. This devastating event claimed the lives of 27 girls from Camp Mystic, and Kellyanne was one of the beloved children affected.
On a poignant Friday, the playground at Cambridge Elementary in the Alamo Heights Independent School District was officially dedicated to Kellyanne, celebrating her vibrant spirit and the joy she brought to her family and friends.
“Kellyanne had so many memories on this playground,” her mother, Malorie Lytal, shared during the dedication ceremony. “We spent a ton of time here, from her learning to ride a bike for the first time, to playing soccer and having soccer practice. She came out every day for recess, perfecting her backbend—she has a ton of memories here.”
The dedication serves as a beautiful reminder of Kellyanne’s joyful childhood and the cherished memories created on this playground. Her mother expressed the family’s desire to honor her in a special way, ensuring that her memory would endure. “We wanted to honor her in a special way, that her memory would last for a really long time,” Malorie explained.
In addition to the playground dedication, Kellyanne’s parents have taken steps to keep her legacy alive through the establishment of the Kindness for Kellyanne foundation. This initiative aims to promote kindness and community support, reflecting the values they hope to instill in others in her memory.
