SAN ANTONIO – A serious accident on Interstate 10 resulted in three individuals, including a teenager, being hospitalized with significant injuries. According to reports from the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD), the incident occurred early Wednesday morning, just after 4:15 a.m., in the 10600 block of Interstate 10 westbound, near Ramsgate Road.
Initial investigations reveal that the driver of a Volkswagen, an 18-year-old male, was distracted while looking at his phone for directions at the time of the collision. This distraction led him to miss a turnaround over the interstate, ultimately resulting in a crash against a retaining wall.
The SAPD confirmed that the driver, along with a 15-year-old boy and a 20-year-old man, sustained major injuries from the accident. Fortunately, police have stated that there were no criminal elements involved in this incident.
This incident serves as a crucial reminder of the dangers of distracted driving. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), distracted driving claimed 3,142 lives in 2019 alone, underscoring the importance of staying focused on the road. Motorists are urged to avoid using their phones while driving and to remain vigilant to prevent similar accidents in the future.
