SAN ANTONIO – After a manhunt that lasted several weeks, San Antonio police announced the arrest of an 18-year-old suspect in connection with a Northwest Side murder.
Jadan Gutierrez was taken into custody on Monday on charges of murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to jail records. This arrest comes after an extensive investigation into a violent incident that shocked the local community.
The incident in question occurred around 12:35 a.m. on March 15, in the 5900 block of White Cloud Street. Upon arrival, officers from the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) discovered two victims suffering from gunshot wounds.
One of the victims, a 17-year-old girl named Josielynn Cordova, was found critically injured and later pronounced dead at the scene. The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that her death was attributed to a gunshot wound to the torso.
The second victim, a 22-year-old man, was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. As of the latest reports, his condition remains unknown, highlighting the ongoing concern for the victims’ families.
Witnesses provided crucial information to SAPD, stating that Gutierrez allegedly entered the location, retrieved a firearm, and opened fire on both Cordova and the man. This behavior has raised alarms about youth violence and the prevalence of firearms in the community.
Gutierrez’s capture was facilitated by the U.S. Marshals, illustrating the collaborative efforts of law enforcement to ensure community safety. According to jail records, he was booked into the Bexar County Adult Detention Center on a significant bond of $350,000.
This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing challenges related to gun violence, particularly among young people. Community leaders and advocates are likely to use this case as a catalyst for discussions on preventive measures and intervention strategies aimed at reducing youth violence.
As the investigation continues, the SAPD urges anyone with additional information to come forward. The community’s cooperation is vital in addressing and mitigating such violent incidents, ensuring a safer environment for all residents.
