In late April, Jacob Barcena, a police officer with the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD), faced serious consequences for violating departmental rules related to conduct, behavior, and intoxication. This situation raised eyebrows within the community and among his peers.

On November 22, deputies were called to Talley’s Pub just after midnight, where they found Barcena lying down and unresponsive outside the bar located on Potranco Road. Witnesses reported a troubling incident involving Barcena and a restaurant employee.

According to the employee, Barcena had been drinking heavily and became involved in a physical altercation that led to his removal from the premises. In a concerning twist, the employee stated that Barcena was armed with a handgun, which staff had taken away and secured inside the bar for safety.

When SAPD supervisors arrived to assess the situation, they noted that Barcena appeared to be intoxicated and unfit for duty. Body camera footage captured Barcena making comments that were deemed disrespectful, further complicating his situation.

Barcena was initially taken into custody for resisting arrest; however, the case against him was quickly rejected by prosecutors just hours later, highlighting the complexities of the incident.

This incident is particularly significant as Barcena is a nine-year veteran of the SAPD. Following his suspension from early June to early July, it raised questions about conduct standards within law enforcement agencies.

In January 2025, Barcena was involved in a more violent encounter when he was one of seven officers shot during a standoff in the Stone Oak area, further complicating his career and reputation.
