LONDON – Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made a splash on Thursday with their first public appearance together since moving back to England. The couple was greeted by enthusiastic cheers from children as they visited the Community Recording Studio in Nottingham, a place dedicated to helping young people gain confidence through music, performance, and sports.
As they arrived, the crowd erupted in applause, with one fan shouting, “We love you Duchess Meghan, we love you!” Harry and Meghan took the time to take selfies, offer hugs, and shake hands with their supporters, especially the kids who were excited to meet them.
This event marked their first joint outing in Nottingham, a city significant to them as it was where they made their first appearance together after announcing their engagement back in 2017. Although they are no longer working royals, their visit still carried elements of royal tradition, including announcements featuring their titles as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
However, it’s important to note that King Charles III has made it clear that Harry and Meghan are non-working members of the royal family. This means they cannot use royal titles like His Royal Highness or Her Royal Highness in their charity work, which they will do as private citizens instead. A letter from the palace emphasized this point, reflecting concerns that their celebrity status could overshadow other working royals.
After visiting the Community Recording Studio, the couple planned to go to Himmah, the largest food bank in central England, and Epic Partners, which provides sports and education programs for young people in need. Harry has been involved with these organizations for over ten years, while Meghan previously collaborated with Himmah on a community cookbook.
Since stepping down from royal duties over six years ago, Harry and Meghan have focused on building their lives in California, where they signed deals with platforms like Netflix and Spotify. However, their relationship with the royal family has been complicated, especially after Meghan spoke publicly about her struggles with mental health and accusations of racism within the palace.
Recently, Harry expressed a desire for reconciliation with his father, King Charles, wanting his children to know their grandfather. The family is reportedly living in a private residence in the Cotswolds, an area known for its picturesque countryside.
Despite their excitement about returning to the U.K., the couple’s move has not been without its challenges. Harry has been advocating for public police protection, which was removed when they stepped back from royal duties. He argues that they still face security threats due to his royal status, and just at the start of the school year, their children had to change schools over security concerns.
This visit signifies a new chapter for Harry and Meghan as they navigate their roles outside the royal family, balancing their public image while engaging with the community.
