BEXAR COUNTY, Texas – In a significant turn of events, a woman involved in a tragic shooting six years ago has accepted a plea deal, resulting in a substantial prison sentence. Venus Flores, aged 27, pleaded guilty to an aggravated assault charge, which carries serious consequences.

The case dates back to June 2020, when a young man named Christopher Alderete, just 25 years old, lost his life in a shooting incident on the North Side of San Antonio. Flores was one of two suspects connected to this tragic event, and her plea deal has now led to a prison sentence of 20 years.

The first suspect, Fabian Jay Hernandez, was apprehended shortly after the shooting and was sentenced to 40 years in prison last July for his role in Alderete’s murder. Flores, however, was arrested a year later and has now taken a plea deal for a second-degree felony involving aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Court records reveal that although her sentence is set for 20 years, Flores will receive credit for 987 days already served. Additionally, as part of her plea agreement, she is required to pay $6,000 in restitution to the Crime Victims’ Compensation fund managed by the Texas Attorney General’s Office.

This case was presided over by Judge Michael Mery in Bexar County’s 144th Criminal District Court, highlighting the seriousness with which the judicial system is treating violent crime.

Incident Overview

On the early morning of June 15, 2020, police were called to the scene at approximately 3 a.m., located in the 1100 block of West Ridgewood Court, near West Hildebrand Avenue. Officers reported that a masked man approached a vehicle occupied by Alderete and a female companion and opened fire.

Witness accounts indicated that the shooter exchanged words with Alderete before firing. In a chaotic moment, the woman in the vehicle exited as shots rang out, falling to the ground as if she had been struck, although authorities later confirmed she was unharmed.

This incident has raised questions about violence in communities and the impact of such events on families and friends left behind. The justice system’s response, including the sentences handed down, reflects the seriousness of the crime and its consequences.
