SAN ANTONIO – In an unusual incident that unfolded in San Antonio, a woman named Alecsis Skie Roberts, 30, decided to take an ambulance for a joyride on a Wednesday morning. This escapade led to her arrest and multiple charges, making headlines for its bizarre nature.
According to reports from the San Antonio Police Department, the events began when an ambulance was dispatched to a Wells Fargo bank around 10:30 a.m. to assist someone feeling unwell. While the paramedics were occupied with the patient in the back, Roberts seized the opportunity to jump into the driver’s seat and drive off.
The police, utilizing their EAGLE helicopter, monitored Roberts as she drove through downtown San Antonio, heading towards the Loop 1604-U.S. Highway 90 interchange. The entire journey lasted approximately 22 miles before she was apprehended on Military Drive.
Charges and Legal Proceedings
Roberts is currently facing five third-degree felony charges as a result of her actions. Fortunately, the medics and the patient were unharmed during the incident, and the medics were evaluated and allowed to return home for the day. The patient was later transferred to a different ambulance for treatment at a local hospital.
Roberts has a past involving theft charges; in December 2023, she was convicted for stealing a vehicle valued between $2,500 and $30,000, which led to a two-year prison sentence. Additionally, in April, she pled no contest to a Class B misdemeanor theft charge, resulting in a 16-day stint at the Bexar County Adult Detention Center.
Current Status
As of now, a Bexar County judge has set Roberts’ bond at $200,000 for the five felony charges she faces. The San Antonio Fire Department has stated that the ambulance involved was equipped with anti-theft devices, and the investigation regarding how Roberts managed to steal it is still ongoing.
