SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police responded to more than 13,000 calls for vehicle burglaries last year alone — but for one man who lives on the North Side, he says getting investigators to respond to his case took over six months.

Robin Algoe’s Ring camera captured an armed man entering his truck in his own driveway just before 6 a.m. in March. Algoe said he was certain he locked his truck every night, but the suspect appeared to get into his vehicle too easily.

“If I had been up and around at that time in the morning… I would have confronted him,” Algoe said.

The suspect stole Algoe’s wallet containing his personal information and a significant amount of cash. While he acknowledged leaving his wallet in the truck was a mistake, he promptly reported the incident to the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) and shared the video footage from his camera.

“I showed (the SAPD officer) the video as well and he looked at it and said, yes, that appears to be a weapon in his hand and yes, somebody ought to know who that is. He’s probably in our system,” Algoe reported.

However, Algoe waited a week without hearing from SAPD and decided to reach out for an update. Unfortunately, he received no information.

“Called them, oh, there’s still nobody assigned. We’ll get back with you. Waited another week, called them again. Again, no response,” Algoe recounted.

“I’ve done all this legwork for them to try and give them all the information, but they’re not contacting me, they’re not doing anything, so the question begs to wonder, do they even care?” Algoe expressed his frustration.

SAPD Responds

The San Antonio Police Department stated that they are dedicated to reducing vehicle burglaries in the city and holding suspects accountable for their actions. They emphasized the importance of community involvement in preventing crime.

SAPD actively collaborates with residents to promote vehicle safety tips and prevention strategies aimed at decreasing the likelihood of illegal entries. They encourage the community to report any suspicious activities to help increase police presence in neighborhoods.

As of Tuesday, no arrests had been made in Algoe’s case, and it remains under investigation. SAPD has provided the following safety tips for residents:

  • Always lock your vehicle, even if you’re just stepping away for a moment.
  • Do not leave valuables in plain sight inside the vehicle.
  • Consider installing security cameras around your property.
  • Be aware of your surroundings and report suspicious behavior to the police.
