LAVACA COUNTY, Texas – In a shocking turn of events, a local judge, Travis Hill, was arrested on Saturday. He faces serious allegations, including three felony charges related to sexual assault and soliciting prostitution, as reported by the Lavaca County Sheriff’s Office.
Hill is not just any judge; he serves as the Justice of the Peace for Precinct 2 and also practices law as a criminal defense attorney. This dual role has raised concerns about the implications of his arrest not only on his career but also on the community he serves.

The Lavaca County Sheriff’s Office began investigating Hill about six weeks ago after receiving misconduct allegations. They requested the Texas Department of Public Safety Texas Rangers to conduct a special investigation to ensure that the process was thorough and unbiased.
Due to the potential conflict of interest arising from Hill’s position as both a judge and a defense attorney, the Lavaca County Attorney’s Office recused itself from the case. Instead, the Texas Attorney General’s Office has taken over the prosecution, ensuring that the case is handled with the utmost integrity.
As the investigation continues, the Sheriff’s Office has indicated that more charges could be forthcoming. Sheriff Steven E. Greenwell emphasized the professionalism of the investigation, stating that it was conducted in partnership with the Texas Rangers to maintain independence and transparency.
“No one is above the law, and no one is beneath its protection,” Sheriff Greenwell remarked, highlighting the importance of accountability in the legal system.
Authorities are encouraging anyone with information relevant to the investigation to come forward. They can reach out to the DPS Texas Rangers, visit the Lavaca County Crime Stoppers website or Facebook page, or contact the LCSO Criminal Investigation Division at 361-217-6753. Tips can be submitted anonymously, ensuring that anyone with information can help without fear of repercussion.
