BEXAR COUNTY, Texas – In a recent court hearing, new evidence was presented regarding a tragic case involving the deaths of Matthew Guerra, Savanah Soto, and their unborn child. The witness testimony focused on a truck belonging to Christopher Preciado’s father, which was seen near the scene of the crime just days after the couple was killed in December 2023.
Surveillance footage had already shown Ramon Preciado’s truck near Guerra’s vehicle on Danny Kaye Drive. However, the GPS data revealed that the truck had traveled from the Preciado home to the apartment complex where Guerra and Soto lived on December 24, 2023. It was confirmed that the truck stayed at the apartment complex for about 15 minutes.
Tragically, two days later, Guerra, Soto, and their unborn child were found dead in a vehicle parked on Danny Kaye Drive. A forensic expert from the Bexar County Crime Lab testified that none of the DNA found in the vehicle matched Christopher Preciado’s, indicating he may not have been present at the scene.
Detective Jeremy Goodwin, who is leading the investigation into the deaths, noted that while he could not find evidence of Soto’s injuries in the car, he did observe a significant wound on Guerra’s head. Moreover, it was reported that Guerra’s body had apparent drag marks, suggesting he had been removed from the vehicle after he was shot.
During the court proceedings, Ramon Preciado was approached by a man serving legal papers but initially refused to accept them, later picking them up from the ground. If convicted, Christopher Preciado faces a potential life sentence without the possibility of parole.
Background Information
Savanah Soto was expecting her baby and was scheduled to be induced on December 22, 2023, but she never attended her appointment. The last contact anyone had with Soto and Guerra was on December 21, 2023. Concerned family members reported Soto missing shortly thereafter, prompting authorities to issue a statewide CLEAR Alert on Christmas Day.
On December 26, 2023, police discovered the couple’s bodies inside Guerra’s vehicle at an apartment complex in Leon Valley. Christopher Preciado was arrested on January 3, 2024, and charged with capital murder, while his father, Ramon Preciado, faced charges of tampering with evidence and abuse of a human corpse. Christopher Preciado’s mother, Myrta Romanos, was later arrested for allegedly attempting to cover up the crime.
The families of Soto and Guerra have stated they did not know Christopher or Ramon Preciado. Reports suggest that the dispute leading to the murders stemmed from a drug deal gone wrong. Christopher Preciado claimed that Guerra had brandished a gun, and during a struggle, both Soto and Guerra were shot.
In February 2025, Ramon Preciado was released from detention after his bond was reduced. Myrta Romanos was initially set to go to trial in November 2025, but the charges against her were dismissed when the court denied a state request for a delay. Meanwhile, Christopher Preciado’s trial progressed, showcasing a range of testimony from law enforcement, expert witnesses, and family members.
The trial is expected to last over a week, with both Ramon Preciado and Myrta Romanos on the witness list, though it remains uncertain if they will testify.
