SAN ANTONIO – In a troubling case that has captured the attention of the community, three more individuals have been arrested in connection with the abduction and tragic death of 37-year-old Jaime Adolfo Rodriguez. His body was discovered earlier this month in southeast Bexar County, leading to a serious investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
The latest arrests include Amanda Ann Garza, 40, who was taken into custody on Sunday, followed by Mark Anthony Moran, 38, arrested on Wednesday, and Carlos Alvidrez Jr., 36, who was apprehended on Thursday. Each of these suspects is facing first-degree felony charges for aggravated kidnapping, with the use of a deadly weapon being a significant aspect of the case.
These new arrests follow the earlier detention of Francisco Garza, 39, who was initially charged with failure to report a felony resulting in death. However, as the investigation progressed and surveillance footage was reviewed, his charges were elevated to aggravated kidnapping and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
The investigation took a turn on September 6, when a resident discovered Rodriguez’s body on a private road in the 8000 block of New Sulphur Springs Road. The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office later ruled that Rodriguez’s death was a homicide, noting significant injuries including a gunshot wound, head lacerations, and multiple broken ribs.
Authorities believe that the motive behind Rodriguez’s abduction was a dispute involving money and drugs. Amanda Garza informed detectives that Rodriguez had allegedly stolen $12,000 from her, which was intended for a drug deal. This money, she claimed, belonged to a man identified as Matthew Doria.
Witnesses and surveillance footage revealed that on the morning of September 5, a group confronted Rodriguez at a home on Rivas Street. It was reported that he was assaulted by several individuals who kicked and punched him, ultimately chasing him down as he tried to escape.
Surveillance video captured Alvidrez chasing Rodriguez and physically forcing him into a white Chevrolet Tahoe belonging to Moran. Moran later admitted to deputies that he had assaulted Rodriguez and drove the vehicle with him in the back cargo area. He claimed he lent the Tahoe to Alvidrez in exchange for methamphetamine and identified Alvidrez as the person responsible for Rodriguez’s death.
The Tahoe was located at an apartment complex on Starcrest Drive, where deputies found evidence suggesting a violent incident had taken place, including marks resembling dried blood in the cargo area. Alvidrez was subsequently arrested during a traffic stop, where he confessed to his involvement in the abduction and assault of Rodriguez.
As the investigation continues, authorities have also secured an arrest warrant for Matthew Doria on charges of aggravated kidnapping and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. This case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers associated with drug-related disputes and the tragic outcomes that can ensue.
