SAN ANTONIO – Recently, two men were arrested after a dramatic police chase that left two Texas Department of Safety (DPS) troopers injured. The men, identified as Angel Rene Vital and Nick Garza, were involved in an incident that began with a traffic stop.

On June 12, around 6:30 p.m., DPS troopers attempted to pull over a white Chevrolet Malibu. However, Vital, the driver, chose not to stop, leading to a high-speed chase. Troopers tried to end the pursuit using a Grappler device, a tool designed to safely bring vehicles to a halt.

Despite their efforts, Vital abandoned the Malibu and fled on foot to a second vehicle. Unfortunately, during the escape, two troopers were injured after being dragged by the fleeing vehicle.

On June 17, law enforcement officials, including Texas Rangers and Special Agents from the Criminal Investigation Division, successfully apprehended Vital. He was already wanted on felony charges, which included two counts of aggravated assault against a public servant.

Garza was also arrested for his role in the incident. He faces charges for hindering apprehension and interference with public duties, as investigators found that he assisted Vital in evading capture.

Understanding the Consequences

This incident not only highlights the risks law enforcement officers face daily but also emphasizes the importance of accountability. When individuals choose to evade law enforcement, it can lead to dangerous situations for everyone involved.

As this case unfolds, it serves as a reminder of the vital role police play in maintaining public safety and the serious consequences that can arise from reckless behavior.
