ARLINGTON, Texas – In a thrilling showdown at AT&T Stadium, Tyler Allgeier ignited the Arizona Cardinals’ offense, paving the way for Gardner Minshew and Michael Wilson to orchestrate a stunning upset over the Dallas Cowboys. Chad Ryland added to the drama by making a decisive 42-yard field goal in overtime after missing a crucial PAT just seconds before, sealing a remarkable 33-30 victory for the Cardinals on Sunday.

“It’s not like that’s the first adversity we had on the day,” reflected Minshew, who stepped in for an ineffective Jacoby Brissett in the third quarter. He spearheaded a rapid 63-second drive to tie the game just before Ryland’s missed kick. “I know it seems like, ‘Oh, man.’ But it’s 30-30, got a chance to play these boys in overtime. Let’s freaking go. Sign me up.”

With this win, the Cardinals not only extended their dominance over Dallas to five consecutive victories but also improved their record to 5-0 at AT&T Stadium since its opening in 2009. This defeat was particularly painful for the Cowboys (3-5), who led by two touchdowns early in the fourth quarter and had not trailed until the final kick.

“What I told the guys is we obviously have to learn to finish in all three phases,” stated Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer. “We had a chance to do it in a lot of different ways. When you have people down, you have to finish them and that’s the most disappointing thing.”

Arizona’s resilience was largely due to Allgeier’s standout performance, where he recorded a career-high 191 scrimmage yards, including a stunning 63-yard touchdown run and a 50-yard dash that set up his second touchdown reception. Allgeier’s contributions were vital as he amassed 147 rushing yards and 44 receiving yards, with all but seven of those coming in the second half.

Despite a strong start, the Cowboys’ defense faltered in the closing minutes of regulation, allowing the Cardinals to mount an impressive comeback. Minshew completed 17 of 23 passes for 188 yards and three touchdowns, demonstrating poise under pressure.

Arizona’s 80-yard drive, culminating in a touchdown catch by Wilson, brought the game to a dramatic 30-30 tie. However, Ryland’s missed PAT added an unusual twist to the game’s narrative, marking only the third occurrence since 2000 where a team missed a go-ahead PAT in the final seconds and still managed to win in overtime.

Minshew’s leadership shone bright in the clutch moments, as he orchestrated the final drive in overtime after a three-and-out from both teams. He connected with Wilson multiple times, including a crucial 27-yarder that placed the Cardinals in field goal range. Ryland’s successful kick solidified the victory, showcasing the team’s determination even in the face of adversity.

“I don’t think anyone really in this room or anyone, probably in the country, thought that we had a chance at a comeback right there,” said Cardinals coach Mike LaFleur. “And so to make it 30-30, it was only fitting, and for Chad to finish it out for us. Like I told the guys, right when we started overtime, there’s no way we’re not coming out here with a win.”

Injuries plagued both teams, with the Cardinals missing key players. Allgeier was the only available running back after rookie Jeremiyah Love was sidelined, and two receivers were also out, which led Wilson to step up significantly, finishing the game with eight catches for 111 yards.

On the other side, Dak Prescott’s efforts included a touchdown pass and a rushing score, but the Cowboys were outgained 467-261, struggling to maintain their momentum from a previous week where they rushed for over 200 yards.

“Very disappointing,” Prescott lamented. “One of the toughest I guess I’ve been a part of. No other words for it really, other than really, really disappointing, frustrating. It’s part of this league.”

As the season progresses, the Cardinals will look to build on this momentum as they prepare to face Seattle next Sunday, while the Cowboys will seek redemption in their matchup against Indianapolis.
