LONDON – Grammy-winning singer Chris Brown arrived Monday at a London court for sentencing over brawling at a Mayfair nightclub three years ago.
Brown, 37, faces up to three years in prison after pleading guilty to a count of affray in July for attacking a music producer with a bottle.
Several fans cheered as Brown stepped out of a car when he arrived at Southwark Crown Court. His face was covered behind in a black mask and dark glasses, while his dyed blond hair was mostly hidden under a black ball cap. He wore a stylish black leather jacket paired with a light-colored turtleneck.
In February 2023, Brown had denied striking music producer Abraham Diaw at the Tape nightclub, located in the upscale Mayfair area. However, prosecutors claimed that the incident was captured on surveillance cameras in front of a crowd of club-goers.
As part of a plea deal, Brown had charges of assault, attempting to cause grievous bodily harm, and possession of an offensive weapon (the bottle) dropped.
Additionally, Brown’s friend and vocal coach, Omololu Akinlolu, also pleaded guilty to affray, and he is awaiting sentencing as well.
After the brawl, Brown left the United Kingdom but was arrested in May 2025 at a hotel in Manchester during a concert tour.
Brown had been released on a £5 million ($6.7 million) bail, which allowed him to tour Europe and North America last summer.
Rising to fame in 2005, Brown won his first Grammy for Best R&B Album in 2011 with “F.A.M.E.” He received his second Grammy in the same category in 2025 for “11:11 (Deluxe).”
Unfortunately, Brown has faced numerous legal issues since his felony conviction for assaulting his then-girlfriend, Rihanna, just before the Grammy Awards in 2009. His history includes multiple arrests across the United States for various altercations. Notably, in 2019, he was detained in Paris and questioned regarding a rape accusation but was released without any charges.
