SAN ANTONIO – An ofrenda, or altar, dedicated to Edward Trejo was displayed at this year’s Muertos Fest, an event that celebrates the lives of those who have passed away. This heartfelt tribute was put together by Edward’s mother, Andrea Trejo, as a way to honor her son who tragically lost his life in a shooting incident in December 2025.
Andrea took the time to decorate the altar at Hemisfair, filling it with items that represented Edward’s personality and passions. “He was such a light,” she expressed, emphasizing the joy and positivity her son brought to those around him. “We made an ofrenda for him to show who he was as a person as we still fight for justice for the loss of my son’s life.”
Edward Trejo was shot during a confrontation that arose from a noise complaint at a residence located on Cincinnati Avenue. This incident highlights the ongoing issue of gun violence in communities. In connection with this tragic event, Paul Flores, 40, has been arrested and is facing charges of murder and aggravated assault.
In a call to action, Andrea Trejo urged the community to come together to raise awareness about gun violence. “I’m asking for the public and for all of San Antonio to help me bring awareness to gun violence,” she stated, showing her determination to make a difference.
Sharing her son’s story with visitors who stop by the altar has not only helped Andrea in her grieving process but also serves as a powerful reminder of the impact of violence on families and communities. By participating in events like Muertos Fest, she hopes to spread awareness and promote healing.
