SAN ANTONIO – Shanna Beyah had barely settled into her Castle Hills home when someone broke into her vehicle.
“We got broken into the second week of us being here, so it was the last thing I expected,” Beyah said. She was shocked when a thief took a duffel bag filled with souvenirs and cash from her car. After filing a police report and reviewing her Ring camera footage, Beyah felt frustrated when no progress was made in the investigation.
Recently, the arrest of a suspect linked to an alleged vehicle theft ring has raised concerns among her neighbors. San Antonio police apprehended 19-year-old Isaac Daniel Vasquez, who is accused of being involved in a series of vehicle thefts that targeted neighborhoods like Castle Hills and nearby areas earlier this year.
While it remains uncertain if Vasquez is connected to Beyah’s break-in, the crime wave has left residents on edge. For Beyah, the worry extends beyond stolen belongings; she fears for her safety and that of her children if they encounter a thief in the act.
Michael Ferguson, a Castle Hills resident for 15 years, shared his concerns: “I get kind of worried because it’s a pretty peaceful street for the most part.” This sentiment reflects the growing anxiety within the community as news of the thefts spreads.
Alleged Theft Ring
According to a Castle Hills Police Department affidavit, surveillance footage captured two individuals allegedly breaking into pickup trucks on Briarcliff Drive and Gardenview Drive on February 5. Investigators reported that Vasquez used a screwdriver to break a truck’s window and steal items inside.
The investigation also uncovered a connection to a stolen 2023 Land Rover Range Rover, valued between $75,000 and $90,000. This luxury vehicle was reported stolen from a home near Alamo Heights and later recovered weeks later.
Authorities believe these incidents are part of a broader pattern of vehicle break-ins affecting Castle Hills, Alamo Heights, Terrell Hills, and Olmos Park. Vasquez faces multiple charges, including two counts of burglary of a vehicle, theft of property, and engaging in organized criminal activity.
For residents who chose Castle Hills and surrounding neighborhoods for their peaceful atmosphere, these allegations serve as a reminder that crime can happen anywhere. It’s crucial to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities to keep the community safe.
