SAN ANTONIO – A recent incident in Schertz has led to the arrest of a man who is believed to be involved in a series of assaults, including a stabbing at a local restaurant just a day prior.
On October 4, 69-year-old Karl Wayne Baylor was taken into custody by Schertz police and charged with three counts of aggravated assault against public servants. According to jail records, he was booked into the Comal County jail that same day with a bond set at $175,000.
Baylor is already facing an existing warrant, and authorities indicate he is awaiting extradition back to Bexar County. This follows an incident where he allegedly stabbed a worker at DeeWillie’s BBQ the previous evening.
On October 3, the San Antonio Police Department received a call about an assault outside DeeWillie’s BBQ. Upon arrival, they discovered 33-year-old Jorge Cadena suffering from multiple stab wounds. Unfortunately, the police could not locate the suspect that night, and no arrests were made at that time.
Cadena described the attack, stating that a man jumped out from behind a wall and stabbed him multiple times with a knife. “That was one of the first things that crossed my mind, like, am I dying tonight?” Cadena recounted, reflecting on the terrifying experience.
On the day of the stabbing, Cadena noted that he had seen an unfamiliar man hanging around the restaurant earlier, leading him to believe that this same person was his attacker. Baylor’s arrest affidavit reveals that he often visited DeeWillie’s BBQ, and interestingly, his ex-girlfriend works there.
Despite Cadena’s recollections, there was no prior confrontation between him and Baylor before the stabbing, and as of the latest updates, the police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack.
This incident underscores the importance of community vigilance and the need for safety measures in public spaces. As investigations continue, both the victims and the broader Schertz community are left grappling with the implications of such violent acts.
