SAN ANTONIO – An 11-year-old girl from Judson Independent School District is currently in custody following a serious incident at Metzger Middle School. The girl is accused of stabbing another student during a lockdown drill that occurred on September 30.
According to reports, the school was placed on a hold after the stabbing incident. This means that the school took precautions to ensure the safety of all students and staff during the situation. The school district confirmed that the safety protocols were activated in response to the alarming event.
Prior to the stabbing, another student had alerted school authorities that the girl was seen with a knife. However, when staff members searched her, they did not find any weapon. This raises important questions about safety measures in schools and the need for effective communication among students, teachers, and staff.
During a court hearing on Thursday, Judge William “Cruz” Shaw was informed by the girl’s family that they were shocked by the incident. They requested for her to be allowed to return home. However, prosecutors argued against this, stating that the young girl was not demonstrating responsible behavior and could pose a risk to herself and others.
Judge Shaw emphasized the importance of understanding the consequences of one’s actions, telling the girl, “You made a really bad choice, OK? And there’s consequences to those choices. You understand that?” This highlights how critical it is for young people to grasp the serious implications of their decisions, especially in a school environment.
The young girl will remain in detention until her next court appearance, which is scheduled for October 15. This case serves as a reminder of the need for open discussions about safety, mental health, and making positive choices among students.
