LOS ANGELES – In a recent legal development, Wladimir Klitschko, the ex-fiancé of actor Hayden Panettiere, has taken steps to protect their 11-year-old daughter, Kaya, by filing an urgent petition in a California court. This action comes in the wake of Hayden’s tragic passing, as Klitschko seeks to become the temporary representative for Kaya’s inheritance.
Wladimir Klitschko, a former world champion boxer from Ukraine, has had full custody of Kaya for much of her life. Following the death of her mother, Kaya is now Panettiere’s only heir. The petition filed in a Los Angeles County court highlights concerns about potential threats to Kaya’s inheritance, including valuables that are reportedly missing and unauthorized access to Panettiere’s residence.
According to the filing, it is “urgent and essential” for Klitschko to be granted legal status as temporary guardian of his daughter’s estate. The document warns of the risk that property belonging to Hayden’s estate could be lost, damaged, or dissipated before a permanent representative is appointed.
Klitschko’s legal team submitted the petition on Thursday, but it became widely known only on Monday through a report by TMZ. The filing emphasizes that Klitschko’s primary goal is to safeguard his daughter’s future assets until a permanent administrator can be appointed.
Hayden Panettiere, known for her roles in the TV shows “Heroes” and “Nashville,” tragically passed away on August 16 at the age of 36. A coroner’s report revealed that she died from an accidental overdose involving multiple drugs, including fentanyl. Just weeks before her death, she had been in rehab and was found unresponsive in an apartment in Greenville, South Carolina.
The petition states that federal agents have seized Panettiere’s property as part of an investigation, and there is currently no authorized individual to manage these items and ensure their return. Additionally, it was noted that prior to her death, both Panettiere and Klitschko had hired security for her home due to concerns about unauthorized access by an unknown person, who may continue to attempt to misappropriate property belonging to her estate.
A hearing on this matter is scheduled for October 8. In her memoir released earlier this year, Panettiere opened up about her struggles with addiction and postpartum depression, which followed the birth of her daughter in 2014. Kaya has lived with Klitschko full-time since she was two years old, and Panettiere’s father indicated that she had plans to visit Kaya in Ukraine just days before her passing.
Wladimir Klitschko, now 50 years old, is an Olympic gold medalist who held several heavyweight titles from 2000 to 2015. He and Panettiere began their relationship in 2009 and got engaged in 2013. Klitschko’s older brother, Vitali, also a former champion boxer, currently serves as the mayor of Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, and both brothers have been active in efforts to support their country during its ongoing conflict with Russia.
