MEDINA, Texas – The Creek View Cougars are set to make their mark as the newest team in the Medina Independent School District, eagerly anticipating the opening of their inaugural football season.
Under the guidance of head coach Brant Bourquin, who brings over a decade of coaching experience from the Houston area—including six years at Montgomery and another six at The Woodlands High School—the Cougars are ready to embrace the challenges ahead. Coach Bourquin is well aware of the competitive landscape in District 14-4A Division I, noting, “Wins won’t come easy.”
Entering their first varsity season, the Cougars face a unique challenge: not a single senior is on the roster. The team is composed entirely of juniors and underclassmen, a situation that could present hurdles. “It’s going to be tough for the kids, of course. They’ve never seen the speed of play at the varsity level,” Bourquin stated. However, he remains optimistic, adding, “I think we’re going to be ready.”
Despite their youthful roster and limited varsity experience, the Cougars are adopting a positive mindset as they prepare for a season filled with firsts. The players view their status as a new program as a potential advantage. “New coaches, new teammates. Some of us actually grew up together,” remarked Isaiah Aguilar, a lineman who plays on both sides of the ball. “It feels great to be the first team to walk on this field and take pride in this field.”
The Cougars are fully embracing the challenge ahead, eager to lay the foundation for Creek View football. Starting quarterback Demarcus Young expressed the spirit of the team, saying, “New kids on the block, so everyone is going to doubt us. Everybody’s going to think we’re soft. We’re looking to be the toughest team in the district.”
Excitement is building as the Cougars gear up for their first home game in program history, scheduled for August 28 against Lytle. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m., and the community is expected to rally behind this new chapter in Medina’s athletic history.
