NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas – The Long Creek football team is making history as they prepare for their inaugural varsity season in 2026. This marks a significant milestone for New Braunfels Independent School District (ISD), as Long Creek becomes the district’s second high school, competing at the varsity level for the first time.
“You got to know about ‘The Creek’,” said Long Creek senior cornerback Dante Garcia. “You’re going to see some dogs and some heart out there. You’re going to see some ball.” This enthusiasm among the players reflects the hard work and dedication that has gone into building the program over the past two years.
In their first season, the Dragons will compete in District 13-5A Division II, facing off against established teams like Boerne and Alamo Heights. These matchups promise to be both challenging and exciting, as Long Creek seeks to carve out its identity in a competitive landscape.
“Man, the excitement is definitely through the roof,” said Long Creek football head coach Adam Harvey. “We’re ready to go. I couldn’t tell you exactly what it’s going to look like. There’s a lot of unknowns. But, as far as being ready to snap the ball, we’re ready to do it.” Harvey’s confidence underscores the extensive preparation that has taken place behind the scenes.
To establish a strong foundation, Coach Harvey plans to build the team’s offense around a robust running game, a strategy that aims to emphasize the team’s strengths while developing a unique playing style. “It’s a long awaited, we were looking forward to the season for a good three years,” said senior running back Michael Martinez. “We’re pretty confident in our team right now.”
Garcia echoed this sentiment, stating, “We’re going to go out and play our hearts out for real. We know what we’re going against. It’s nothing new. We got to be ready. Come out there and do what we do best.” This determination and readiness to face challenges head-on will be crucial as they embark on this new journey.
Long Creek is set to kick off their season at 7 p.m. on the first Friday of the UIL football season, traveling to take on the Davenport Wolves. As they step onto the field, the Dragons will not only be playing for themselves but also for the community that has rallied behind them in support of this exciting new chapter.
