SAN ANTONIO – A 13-year-old boy has been arrested and charged with capital murder related to a tragic shooting that took place on the West Side last year.
This young boy, who was just 12 at the time of the incident, appeared in juvenile court on Tuesday for his first detention hearing. The shooting occurred in June 2025 and resulted in the death of a 20-year-old named Marcus Rene Nolf Estrada.
During the hearing, the court learned that the boy’s family had not yet been informed about his arrest and the proceedings. He sat quietly as Judge William Cruz Shaw addressed him, showing visible emotion when the judge ordered him to remain in detention until his next hearing later this month.
According to the San Antonio police, this 13-year-old is the only individual arrested in connection with this case, which is still under active investigation.
What happened in 2025?
The incident occurred on the evening of June 9, 2025, when police responded to a call about a shooting around 8:30 p.m. in the 300 block of Otter Drive. Upon arrival, officers found Nolf Estrada in the driver’s seat of a vehicle that had crashed into a home.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that he died from gunshot wounds, ruling it a homicide.
At the time of the shooting, police reported that three suspects had fled the scene on foot. Despite extensive searches using SAPD’s EAGLE helicopter and K9 units, the suspects were not located. The details surrounding the incident remain unclear, including who fired the shots and what led to the vehicle crashing into the house.
Due to the involvement of a juvenile, many details and court records in this case are not publicly available. The investigation is ongoing, and more information will be shared as it becomes available.
