SAN ANTONIO – A tragic incident unfolded in the Northwest Side community when an AMBER Alert was issued for a missing 2-year-old girl named Aryana Trevino Martinez. On Sunday evening, her disappearance led to frantic searches, but unfortunately, she was later found unresponsive and pronounced dead.
The community came together in grief, including neighbors Anna Marie Ramirez and her son Uriel Ramirez, who felt compelled to help in the search. “We need to be a part of this and help,” Anna Marie expressed, reflecting the strong sense of solidarity among community members.
The Texas Department of Public Safety issued the AMBER Alert around 7:45 p.m. on Sunday, indicating that Martinez was last seen in the 4000 block of Allegheny Drive. As the search intensified, Anna Marie and Uriel decided to explore a nearby creek, a location they instinctively felt was worth checking.
Anna Marie described the challenges of searching through dense vegetation in the area. “I eventually had to stop because of how difficult it was to maneuver through the tall weeds,” she said. Meanwhile, Uriel continued his search for about 15 minutes, using higher ground to gain a better view.
When Uriel caught sight of something in the creek, he jumped in without knowing how deep it was. “I found her!” he yelled as he emerged with Martinez in his arms. Anna Marie recalled the moment with a mix of hope and desperation, “He felt a pull to go look there.”
Despite the immediate efforts of first responders who performed CPR, Martinez was pronounced dead at 12:10 a.m. on Monday by the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office. The cause and manner of death remain under investigation.
The AMBER Alert for Aryana was officially canceled by local authorities around 3 a.m. on Monday. Earlier in the evening, a significant number of neighbors from Glenoaks Park and Dreamhill Estates had joined in the search, with assistance from first responders who utilized ground and aerial resources.
Although the circumstances surrounding how Martinez ended up in the water are unclear, police confirmed that she was captured on surveillance video walking alone in an alley shortly before her tragic death. Investigators are actively seeking additional footage to clarify whether she was accompanied by anyone.
In the wake of this heart-wrenching event, Anna Marie Ramirez urged the community to extend their prayers to the family. “I know it’s going to be a long journey for them,” she said, emphasizing the profound impact this loss will have on everyone who knew Aryana.
