SEGUIN, Texas – In a concerning incident, two individuals were arrested early Wednesday morning for serious charges related to human trafficking and sexual assault. This alarming event highlights the ongoing issue of human trafficking, a crime that affects many individuals across the country.

According to a post by the Seguin Police Department on Facebook, the suspects have been identified as Brian Smith, 26, and Haiyan Lee, 25, both hailing from Katy, Texas. The swift response from local law enforcement illustrates their commitment to protecting the community.

The police were alerted after a welfare check request around 12:45 a.m. in the 1600 block of State Highway 123 Bypass. Upon arrival, officers found a 26-year-old woman nearby who was in distress and crying out for help.

The woman bravely shared her harrowing experience with the officers, revealing that she had been kidnapped from the Katy area and subsequently assaulted by the two individuals now in custody. This kind of trauma is unfortunately more common than many realize, and it is crucial for communities to be aware of such incidents.

Smith and Lee have been charged with aggravated sexual assault and trafficking of a person. They are currently held at the Guadalupe County Jail, with their bail set at an alarming $2 million each, reflecting the severity of their alleged crimes.

This case serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and community support in combatting human trafficking. Awareness and education can empower individuals to recognize and report suspicious activities, potentially saving lives.

If you or someone you know is in a similar situation, it is vital to seek help immediately. There are numerous resources available, and no one should feel alone in facing such challenges. Remember, your voice matters, and speaking out can lead to change.
