VON ORMY, Texas – In a surprising turn of events, a man was arrested at a highway construction site in southwest Bexar County for impersonating a police officer. Jose Morin, 43, was directing traffic when police discovered he was falsely claiming to be a commissioned officer.
Morin now faces serious charges, including a felony for impersonating a public servant and a misdemeanor for unlawfully carrying a weapon. This incident took place around 11 a.m. on a Sunday when Von Ormy police officers encountered him along Interstate 35.

Interestingly, Morin had previously applied to become a reserve officer with the Dilley Police Department but did not meet the necessary qualifications. According to Police Chief Hernandez, Morin never worked with the department during his tenure.
At the time of his arrest, Morin was wearing a police uniform and operating a vehicle that had police markings, which further complicated the situation. This action raised serious concerns about public safety and the trust placed in law enforcement officers.
While Morin is listed as a licensed peace officer according to the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement records, it’s important to note that he has not held a law enforcement commission since January. This means he was not authorized to perform any law enforcement duties.
At the time of his arrest, Morin claimed he was working for Oso Public Safety, a traffic control contractor based in San Antonio. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of verifying the credentials of individuals who claim to represent law enforcement, especially in situations that involve public safety.
