SAN ANTONIO – The Texas Education Agency (TEA) is currently investigating the educator certificate of Jaime Aquino, the outgoing superintendent of San Antonio Independent School District (SAISD). This investigation follows allegations that Aquino failed to report misconduct among educators in the district.
According to official records, Aquino’s educator certificate is under review by the TEA’s Educator Investigations Division. This process is crucial to ensure that all educators maintain the highest standards of conduct and accountability.

Jaime Aquino has been serving as the superintendent since May 2022 and recently announced his plans to retire in January 2027. This upcoming transition is now overshadowed by the ongoing investigation.
SAISD spokesperson, Kobersky, mentioned that the agency is in the early stages of its investigation and that the district is cooperating fully with the TEA. It was reported that the district became aware of the TEA’s review when a reporter made inquiries earlier this week.
In response to concerns about the investigation, Kobersky noted, “We can speculate that someone questioned whether Child Protective Services (CPS) was notified of an incident involving a student at one of our campuses.” The district has since provided documentation confirming that CPS was indeed contacted regarding the matter.
The district expects a resolution to the investigation this week. Meanwhile, the SAISD board has appointed Toni Thompson, a longtime employee and current chief of staff, to serve as the interim superintendent starting July 1.
During his time as superintendent, records indicate that Aquino took at least 36 trips across the country at a cost of approximately $36,896. Additionally, the district incurred nearly $500,000 in expenses for a single consultant, and spent significant amounts on legal fees related to media records requests, raising concerns about financial management within the district.
As this situation unfolds, stakeholders within the community are encouraged to stay informed and engaged. If anyone has additional information or concerns regarding SAISD, they can reach out to Daniela at dibarra@ksat.com for further discussion.
