SAN ANTONIO – Don’t forget to pick up the milk at the store, or maybe some Spurs tickets.

In an exciting promotion this past Thursday, HEB, a beloved grocery chain in Texas, partnered with the San Antonio Spurs to surprise shoppers with free groceries and playoff tickets across three locations. This initiative not only delighted customers but also showcased the strong ties between the local community and the Spurs organization.

At the McCreless HEB, located near South New Braunfels Avenue and I-37, shoppers were in for a unique treat—some even had the chance to have their groceries scanned by Spurs legend Sean Elliott. Customers like Tiara Harris were ecstatic to receive $170 worth of groceries completely free, which she had been purchasing for a Spurs watch party. “We were having a little cookout, and a Spurs player ended up paying for our groceries for the party,” she recounted, highlighting the unexpected joy of the event.

Elliott, who participated in this heartwarming initiative, shared that while he didn’t personally cover anyone’s expenses, it was a fulfilling experience to contribute to the community in such a meaningful way. “It’s amazing to make somebody’s day like that,” he stated, underscoring the emotional impact of the gesture. Many shoppers expressed gratitude, noting how financial hardships made such surprises particularly significant.

Additionally, lucky shoppers clad in Spurs gear were gifted tickets to the highly anticipated playoff games, with the Spurs currently tied 1-1 against the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference Finals. As the team prepared to return home for crucial games, the excitement was palpable, especially given that this is the Spurs’ first playoff run since 2017. Ticket prices for these games have skyrocketed, with the cheapest seats on Ticketmaster listed at $337 for Game 3 and $359 for Game 4.

One couple, Christian Flores and Cheyeane Zurita, expressed sheer disbelief when they received tickets to Game 4. “There’s no way,” Flores exclaimed, while his wife was left speechless. Having attended Spurs games before, they had dreamed of experiencing the thrill of the playoffs but were deterred by the steep prices. “I was looking at ticket prices every day, thinking we might have to take out a loan,” Zurita laughed, relieved at their unexpected windfall.

An HEB spokeswoman noted that while the grocery chain has conducted similar promotions in the past, this was the first for the current playoff season, demonstrating their commitment to engaging with the community and supporting local sports. Such initiatives not only foster goodwill but also create lasting memories for fans and families alike.
