SAN ANTONIO – The Spurs’ Playoff Pop-Up Shop on West Commerce Street transformed into a vibrant watch party on Sunday evening, uniting fans in a collective spirit of support for their team.

Despite the Spurs’ loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves, which left the playoff series tied, the atmosphere was electric as dozens gathered to cheer on their favorite players. This event highlighted the deep-rooted connection between the Spurs and the San Antonio community, showcasing the city’s unwavering loyalty to its basketball team.

Organized by District 1, Centro San Antonio, and the city’s Downtown Office, the gathering featured an array of activities including delicious food, engaging games, and live mural painting, adding to the festive atmosphere. Local artist Ricardo Rodriguez was among those painting live, sharing his creativity with the crowd.

“It’s such an honor,” Rodriguez remarked, reflecting on the opportunity to contribute to the community’s celebration.

The event was more than just a celebration of the Spurs; it also honored mothers in the community. Attendee Mary Alice Hernandez expressed her sentiment, stating, “There is nothing else to top my day than watching the Spurs. My family is por vida. That’s what the Spurs mean to me.” Such declarations underline the cultural significance of the team within the fabric of San Antonio life.

Looking ahead, Game 5 of the playoff series is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Frost Bank Center. For fans unable to attend, the city will host another watch party at Mexico City located at the Rivercenter, providing yet another opportunity for the community to come together and support their team.
