Josh O’Connor recently shared some exciting insights about his experience working with legendary director Steven Spielberg on the upcoming film “Disclosure Day.” O’Connor, known for his roles in “The Crown” and “Emma,” describes Spielberg as a significant figure in the world of filmmaking, stating that he’s “the director of every child’s imagination.”

Growing up in the ’90s, O’Connor didn’t come from a movie-loving family, but he vividly remembers Blockbuster nights filled with classics like “E.T.” He was amazed by how much Spielberg’s iconic visuals influenced him during his first day on the set of “Disclosure Day.” Surrounded by a backlot environment with dripping pipes and beams of light, he felt like he was stepping into a Spielberg movie.

Although the plot of “Disclosure Day,” which hits theaters on June 12, remains largely under wraps, it is said to explore themes familiar to Spielberg fans, including connections to “Close Encounters of the Third Kind.” O’Connor plays Daniel, a cybersecurity expert with a mysterious link to Emily Blunt’s character, a meteorologist. Together, they uncover truths that powerful figures want to keep hidden.

In an interview with The Associated Press, O’Connor expressed his awe at the entire experience. He described it as surreal, noting that while he felt a close connection to Spielberg during filming, he couldn’t shake the feeling that he was living out a dream. “Every aspect of making this film was like a pinch-me moment,” he said.

When asked about Spielberg’s personality, O’Connor shared that the director exceeded his expectations. “He’s got this energy about him. He’s still so excited,” O’Connor remarked. Working with Spielberg, who has directed classics like “Jaws” and “E.T.,” was a thrilling experience filled with joy and inspiration.

O’Connor further elaborated on his character, Daniel, saying that he possesses unique abilities. However, he’s not your typical action hero; he’s an everyday guy who finds himself caught up in extraordinary circumstances. The connection between Daniel and Blunt’s character drives the narrative, even as they remain unaware of it for much of the film.

Secrecy surrounded the production of “Disclosure Day,” with O’Connor recalling how he received the script in a unique way. While filming “Knives Out,” he was delivered the screenplay by a motorcycle courier, which added to the sense of mystery surrounding the project. He noted how this heightened secrecy is understandable given Spielberg’s iconic status in Hollywood.

Reflecting on the experience of watching the film for the first time, O’Connor described it as both thrilling and nerve-wracking. With Emily Blunt by his side, he struggled to focus on the film itself, often battling self-doubt about his performance. Despite this, he felt an overwhelming sense of awe at what they had created.

Throughout his career, O’Connor has had the opportunity to collaborate with a diverse range of filmmakers, which he considers one of his proudest achievements. He admires the versatility of great actors like Robin Williams and Gene Wilder, who could seamlessly transition between laughter and tears, and aspires to achieve that level of flexibility in his own career.

One of O’Connor’s favorite stories from working with Spielberg highlights the director’s accessibility and willingness to engage in creative discussions. When O’Connor struggled with an emotional scene, Spielberg offered a piece of advice that helped him unlock the character’s feelings. Ironically, the text message he received was intended for Spielberg’s wife, but it ended up becoming a humorous moment on set, demonstrating the director’s unique approach to storytelling.
