SAN ANTONIO – A serious incident unfolded over the weekend at Espada Park, situated in the 1700 block of Southeast Military Drive, where a man was arrested for allegedly assaulting a woman and her young child, according to the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD).
The event occurred just before 3 p.m. on Saturday when officers received reports of an assault in progress. Upon their arrival, they discovered 24-year-old Atharva Vyas being restrained by a bystander who had intervened after witnessing the alleged attack.
According to preliminary reports from SAPD, Vyas is accused of pulling the hair of 27-year-old Gabriella Perez as she attempted to walk away with her 3-year-old daughter. The sudden aggression caused Perez to fall to the ground, resulting in her dropping her daughter.
In a disturbing turn of events, Vyas allegedly began to physically assault the child, leading to serious bodily injury. Emergency responders evaluated both Perez and her daughter for any injuries sustained during the incident.
The timely intervention of the witness played a crucial role in the situation, as they managed to restrain Vyas until law enforcement officials arrived on the scene. Following the incident, Vyas was taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault and assault causing bodily injury.
