SAN ANTONIO – A man has been sentenced to life in prison for his involvement in a tragic shooting incident at an East Side bar that resulted in the deaths of three individuals in 2021. The sentencing took place on Thursday, as announced by the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office.

Daniel Barragan was found guilty of murdering Dan Edward Martinez Jr. and siblings April and Mauro Rodriguez. The events unfolded on August 15, 2021, when a confrontation broke out at The Boom Boom Room, an illegal after-hours bar.

According to the district attorney’s office, the altercation began with a fight between two women and quickly escalated, involving several other patrons. The chaos spilled into the parking lot, where Barragan and another individual, Eduardo Delarosa, retrieved firearms from their vehicles.

Video evidence revealed that Barragan fired an assault-style weapon into a crowd of people exiting the bar while Delarosa discharged his weapon into the air. The recklessness of this behavior highlighted the dangerous environment within the illegal establishment.

As a result of Barragan’s gunfire, April Rodriguez, 32, and Martinez, 28, were pronounced dead at the scene, while Mauro Rodriguez, 26, succumbed to his injuries at a nearby hospital. Additionally, two other individuals sustained injuries due to the gunfire.

Following the incident, Barragan fled but was later apprehended by the San Antonio Police Department during a traffic stop. Meanwhile, Delarosa accepted a plea agreement and received a 15-year prison sentence for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

The incident not only led to tragic loss of life but also prompted regulatory action, resulting in the permanent cancellation of the bar’s liquor permit by the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission. This case serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of gun violence and the importance of safe environments in social settings.
