BEXAR COUNTY, Texas – The trial for a Bexar County man accused of murdering a young couple and their unborn child is underway this week. This serious case has captured community attention as Christopher Preciado, 21, faces charges of capital murder in connection with the deaths of Savanah Soto, Matthew Guerra, and their unborn child.

Jury selection for Preciado’s trial began on Monday, with both the prosecution and defense expected to present their opening arguments on Tuesday. If he is found guilty, Preciado could face life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Background of the Case

Savanah Soto was scheduled to be induced to deliver her baby on December 22, 2023, but she never showed up for her appointment. According to family and police reports, Soto and her boyfriend, Matthew Guerra, were last heard from on December 21, 2023. Concerned family members reported Soto missing, prompting authorities to issue a statewide CLEAR Alert on Christmas Day.

Tragically, just one day later, on December 26, 2023, police discovered Soto and Guerra’s bodies in Guerra’s vehicle at a Leon Valley apartment complex. The heartbreaking news shocked their families and the community.

Christopher Preciado was arrested on January 3, 2024, and charged with capital murder. His father, Ramon Preciado, was also arrested for tampering with evidence and abuse of a human corpse, while his mother, Myrta Romanos, was arrested for allegedly trying to cover up the crime.

According to the police, the dispute that led to the murders originated from a drug deal. An affidavit revealed that Christopher claimed Guerra pulled a gun on him, and during the struggle, both Soto and Guerra were shot.

As the case developed, Ramon Preciado was released from custody after his bond was reduced, and charges against Myrta Romanos were later dismissed. However, the case against Christopher Preciado has continued to progress towards trial.

The trial is expected to last over a week, with a witness list that includes law enforcement from various agencies, an expert witness, and family members of Soto and Guerra. Although Ramon Preciado and Myrta Romanos are on the witness list, it is uncertain if they will be called to testify.

While the courtroom proceedings will not be livestreamed, KSAT 12 News is committed to providing continuous updates on this important case as it unfolds.
