KYIV – Early on Saturday, Kyiv experienced missile explosions that resulted in at least five injuries. This sudden attack occurred as Ukraine was gearing up for crucial negotiations set for next week involving Russia and the United States.
Representatives from Russia, Ukraine, and the U.S. are scheduled to meet on Tuesday in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates. This meeting marks the fourth round of talks facilitated by the Trump administration, following the last discussions held in Geneva back in February.
Western nations supporting the peace initiative are advocating for a fresh approach to overcome the current stalemate, while recognizing that significant issues regarding territory and security remain unresolved.
The missile strikes on Kyiv not only caused injuries but also inflicted damage on residential buildings and commercial properties. Traffic was halted on a bridge over the Dnipro River, and the attacks led to new outages of power and water services, according to national and local authorities.
“As a result of the enemy’s night attack, energy facilities in the Kyiv and Zhytomyr regions were damaged,” stated Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko. He emphasized that the energy supply situation in the capital is extremely challenging, impacting the city’s heating and water supply systems.
In southern Ukraine, recovery efforts are ongoing in the village of Komyshuvakha, which was devastated earlier this week when multiple Russian guided bombs targeted a former school and a nearby shelter where residents were awaiting humanitarian assistance.
The death toll from this tragic attack has reached 55, with two bodies recovered early Saturday. Dozens of individuals are still missing in the aftermath of the bombing on the former school, which had been repurposed as an aid distribution center.
Situated near the front line in the Zaporizhzhia region, the village of Komyshuvakha continues to face severe challenges as the conflict impacts everyday life and humanitarian efforts in the area.
