BEXAR COUNTY, Texas – Authorities have arrested a 61-year-old man, Henry Walter Chapman III, after he allegedly forced his way into a residence, brandished a knife, and issued threats to the homeowner regarding his ex-wife. This alarming incident unfolded on October 12, 2023, around 4:20 PM in a gated community located on Fairway Bridge Drive, north of Bexar County.
According to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office, Chapman has been charged with burglary of a habitation with intent to commit a felony. The arrest affidavit reveals the sequence of events that led to this serious charge.
Details of the Incident
Chapman reportedly approached the homeowner under the pretext of belonging to a group he referred to as the “Night Stalkers.” He claimed to be delivering a warning when he arrived at the front door. However, when the homeowner attempted to close the door, Chapman forcefully kicked it open and entered the home without permission.
Once inside, Chapman allegedly threatened the homeowner while wielding a knife, using it to stab the kitchen island to emphasize his demands. He insisted that the homeowner send a message to his ex-wife, threatening further action if his orders were not followed. According to the affidavit, Chapman ominously stated, “We will be back” if the homeowner did not comply.
Witness Accounts
The homeowner’s two daughters were present during the confrontation, witnessing the entire incident from a second-floor balcony. Their accounts corroborated their father’s version of events, adding credibility to the homeowner’s claims. This testimony was crucial in building the case against Chapman.
Investigation and Arrest
Following the incident, investigators utilized surveillance footage from the community’s entrance, along with security camera recordings from inside the home, to track the suspect’s vehicle—a black Mercedes C300. License plate reader technology played a significant role in identifying the car, which was linked to Chapman through records from Sewell Mercedes in Selma, confirming that the vehicle had been loaned to him from October 9 to October 15.
As of now, Chapman is being held on a $50,000 bond, according to court records from Bexar County. This case underscores the importance of community safety and the swift action taken by law enforcement to address violent incidents.
The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding this alarming breach of security, aiming to ensure the safety of residents in the area. As this case unfolds, further updates will be provided to the public.
